Welfare is a type of public assistance that people can depend on when they need to. It is designed for those that are struggling to meet their basic needs on their own. Welfare has always been meant to be a temporary form of assistance, yet for many it has become a way of life. There are stories of generation after generation relying upon welfare. As a result of this reform programs have been initiated. They only give a person a set amount of time and then they can lose certain benefits.

There are plenty of community offices where a person can apply for welfare. They can complete an application and then go in for an appointment. After an assessment has been completed the person can have a better idea of what programs they may be eligible for. There is medical assistance for pregnant women and for children known as Medicaid. Food Stamps can be offered for families as well as individuals based on household income.

In order for a family to get a monthly welfare payment they must have dependent children. These payments are very low and so you may wonder how a family can survive off of them. Yet when they are getting $500 a month in cash and $500 in food stamps that covers a great deal. Most welfare recipients also get help to cover their utilities and they may only have to pay about $20 a month for subsidized housing.

This really ticks off many individuals out there though that work all the time. They may have less disposable income once they pay for medical insurance, their rent or mortgage, and of course childcare so they can go to work or to school. It is really frustrating when your tax dollars are going to help others and you continue to struggle to get by.

Many communities also have welfare programs for the safety of children and the elderly. They can remove children from the home and place them in foster care when their basic needs aren’t being met. Victims of sexual or physical abuse are also removed for their own safety. They may be placed with a family member or with a family they don’t know while they allegations are investigated completely.
